At the Northern Illinois Regional History Conference “Transitional Communities and Global Influences In/On Northern Illinois” held April 20, 2024, CHNI Board Members Bruce Kraig, Gerry Rounds and Deb Lorentsen presented “Northern Illinois Food and Foodways: Memory, Identity, and Tradition in an Industrializing World.”

In addition to focusing on the significance of food and foodways in Northern Illinois, this conference offered a diverse selection of topics beginning with a keynote address titled, "But a Local Phase of a World Problem: The Global Impact of Black Northern Illinois."

Following this address participants could choose to hear presentations on a variety of topics including the impact of Scouting in DuPage County, the history of the Chicago two-flat, or a walk through the Winnebago cemetery.

Watch for future Regional History Conferences hosted by the NIU Libraries—this all day conference is well done and worth attending. We look forward to future participation.
